Charlotte Mullen, AuD, and Katie McCarthy, MBA, CPACC are hosting the Success Leadership Camp for middle school students (April 25-27) and Success Horizon Camp for high school students (April 27-29) in Fairlee, VT, for deaf and hard of hearing students who are interested in leadership skills and peer support. We have several spots left for each camp.  The parent & caregiver meeting is on Saturday, March 1 at Boston Children's Waltham. Families may join in person or remotely. The Family Education and Advocacy Team (FEAT) is hosting a 
virtual elementary to middle school transition workshop on Sunday, March 9 and Monday, March 10. If your child is in 4th-7th grade and preparing for this transition, please join Susan Gibbons, AuD, to learn about the transition process through a student panel, parent panel, psychologists and Teachers of the Deaf (TODs). If you would like to attend, e-mail Susan at susan.gibbons@childrens.harvard.edu. 

 

Cultural Connections has several resources available for Spanish-speaking families with deaf and hard of hearing children, including an ASL at Home curriculum, a reference book with 500+ signs, speech and language milestones and best practices, and a developmental milestones booklet. We also offer virtual ASL classes with a trilingual parent mentor. Contact DHHPOutreach@childrens.harvard.edu if you would like more information or for us to mail the resources.

Community resources

 

February is Black History Month.   American Society for Deaf Children has a great resource with videos and information pertaining to Black Deaf people, Black ASL, and more, to share with your child at home or in school.

 

The Boston Children’s Museum is hosting Critter Weekend (live animal presentations). The 1:30, 2:10 and 2:50 pm slots on Saturday, February 15 will be interpreted. You may register by visiting www.bostonchildrensmuseum.org/ticketing. The flyers are attached in English and Spanish. Hands & Voices invites d/Deaf and hard of hearing teens to play a round of golf and connect at Top Golf in Cranston, RI, on Tuesday, February 18, from 11 am - 1 pm. If you have any questions, contact angels@rihandsandvoices.org. 

 

American Society for Deaf Children has several updated resources for Spanish-speaking families, including Lideres Latinos, a support group for Latino parents with children with disabilities. 

 

The National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) has released EHDI practices (PEP) materials, which are short, digestible overviews or checklists for providers and parents, including a parent & caregiver page on hearing devices and family support, and videos for parents & caregivers about hearing devices and risk factors for hearing loss.

 

Gallaudet University’s Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center has released the 2025 list of camps for d/Deaf and hard of hearing youth all across the United States, categorized by state.  The Massachusetts Association of the Deaf (MSAD) will sponsor four (4) deaf and hard of hearing students with a scholarship of up to $1,500 each to attend a deaf camp of their choice. The eligibility criteria is age 13-17 and proof of acceptance to the chosen camp, along with an application and short video or letter expressing an interest in going to a Deaf camp this summer.
